Here at Alaska Expedition Lodge we offer exceptional Brown bear hunting at both of our lodge locations in Unit 09 of the Alaska Peninsula in southwest Alaska and Unit 06 between Cordova and Yakutat on the border of south central and southeast Alaska.
On the famed Alaska Peninsula in Unit 09 we operate under two federal wildlife concessions inside the Alaska Peninsula Wildlife Refuge targeting the largest brown bears in the world. Operating under these prestigious awarded permits is a privilege We take very seriously. Providing our clients with a world class experience, professional
guides and safe access in and out of the refuge is our top priority.

Operating under our Alaska Peninsula Wildlife Refuge Special Use
Permits allows our clients access to a truly untouched area as we are the only outfitter inside our designated areas. Access will be via our Piper Supercub or Cessna aircraft. Hunts are conducted 1x1 from spike tents in remote areas to provide a true wilderness style ethical hunt. Spot and Stalk is our primary means of hunting which includes a lot of glassing while pursuing Brown Bear. Wolves may be taken on our hunts at no extra charge and a tag is not needed. Wolverine may also be taken on our fall hunts at no extra charge but a tag is needed. The seasons in our area are in the spring during even ending years and fall on odd ending years. Currently our seasons run May 10-31 and October 1-21. These are 10 day hunts where you will arrive at our location from Anchorage via twin engine aircraft. Hunters will arrive at Pumice Creek Lodge where you will meet your guide, shoot your rifles and attend our pre hunt briefing to remind you
of the important guidelines we operate by inside the APNWR.

The primary purposes of the Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge is to
conserve fish and wildlife populations and habitats in their natural diversity including brown bears, the Alaska Peninsula caribou herd, moose, sea otters, and other marine mammals, shorebirds and other migratory birds, raptors including bald eagles and peregrine falcons, and salmonids and other fish.

Each unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System is established to serve a statutory purpose that targets the conservation of native species dependent on its lands and waters. All activities on those acres are reviewed for compatibility with this statutory purpose. Alaska's Refuges 16 Refuges conserve fish and wildlife populations and habitats in their natural diversity; fulfill international treaty obligations of the United States with respect to fish and wildlife and their habitats; provide opportunities for
continued subsistence uses by local residents; support scientific research; and protect water quality and quantity.

Tsiu River Brown Bear

Our area carries a high volume of Brown Bear as our lodge is located on one of the largest salmon run rivers in all of Alaska. Our home river provides Brown
Bear with a world class run of Coho Salmon assuring them plenty of protein to prepare for winter hibernation so it is only natural to hold a high volume of mature brown bears.
We offer both spring and fall hunts here at Alaska Expedition along with lodge-based hunts and out camps in prime brown bear habitat. Unit 06 allows hunters to hunt spring or fall every year as we do not have an alternating season like Kodiak or the Alaska
Peninsula. We target spring bear April-May and fall bear September-October.

One brown bear may be taken by a hunter every regulatory year and does not count against the harvest of one brown bear every four years as other areas of Alaska do. Brown Bear, Trophy Moose and Mountain Goat seasons overlap allowing for a world-class combo hunt.

All trophies are cared for in a professional manner. Hides and skulls are brought back from the field where our guides flesh the hide and turn the ears, nose, lips, eyes and remove the feet/knuckles from the trophy. Once complete, our guides will salt the hide to preserve the trophy for the next step in taxidermy to insure your trophy will arrive to our expediter in Anchorage safely.

Our skinning and fleshing services are included in the cost of your hunt. All hides and skulls are tagged with our hunter’s name, address and contact information along with a separate tag with your taxidermist information before it leaves our lodge to the expediter. Expediting fees are not included in the cost of your Alaskan Hunt.
